Portuguese Teacher Training
Through the Office for Educational Matters and International Relationships of the Portuguese Ministry of Education, specifically the Portuguese Teaching Support Team in Namibia PEACE has provided training to Portuguese speaking teachers from Angola on two occasions. During these trainings 58 + 40 teachers participated. PEACE developed two training manuals to accompany these trainings. The manuals are entitled: “Trauma Awareness and Management for Portuguese Speaking Teachers” and “Supporting Traumatised Children in the Classroom”. Time was spent during the trainings to understand their situation, the needs that they have and the problems they grapple with. Our experience in the first training influenced the content of our second training as we gained more clarity of the needs and context of those being trained. Our experience with these trainings highlighted the need for training in psychosocial issues for teachers in Angola.
