Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling and psychotherapeutic services are provided to the victims of trauma and violence by trained psychologists and psychological counsellors at PEACE or through our professional referral network. Currently there are eight private psychologists who are providing their services to PEACE clients. These are services are offered at no cost or at very reduced fees.
Apart from the psychologists, PEACE's professional network also includes a number of service providers that generally refer clients to the PEACE Centre. These service providers consist of government agencies (Khomas Women and Child Protection Unit, the Ministry of Health and Social Services, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare) and NGOs (LifeLine/ ChildLine, Catholic AIDS Action, Onyose Trust, Women's Solidarity, AIDS Care Trust, etc). A substantial number of clients come to know about PEACE Centre through word-of-mouth.
Initial intake interviews of clients are normally conducted by internal staff at the PEACE Centre before they are either referred to a psychologist within the network, or are attended to by PEACE staff. The majority of PEACE clients who are seen receive counseling over a period of months. Many of these clients are from Windhoek and surrounding areas, with a few coming from remote areas.
