About PEACE Centre

PEACE is an acronym for People's Education, Assistance and Counselling for Empowerment. The PEACE Trust was created in 1999 to assist people overcome the negative impact that organised violence, including war, had (and still has) on the lives of thousands of Namibians. PEACE Trust set up the PEACE Centre in Windhoek to address the consequences of organised violence in a practical and sustainable way.
It has become evident that trauma resulting from organised violence and other types of trauma are often intertwined, consequently, the focus of PEACE was expanded to include assisting people overcome the negative impact of all forms of violence and other events that may result in trauma.

Our Mission

Our mission is to understand, assess and address the dynamics of violence and trauma as well as the impact of violence and trauma on people's lives in Namibia and to effect healing and transformation through the identification and development of appropriate psychosocial interventions.

Our Objective

Our objective is to contribute to a more tolerant society of well functioning individuals, who can develop themselves to their full potential and who can fulfil their roles and participate in the social and economic development of Namibia.

Our Aim

Our aim is to play a role in developing community-based empowerment driven projects, focused on the prevention of violence and trauma.

Our Vision

Our vision is to make high quality professional psychosocial services available to even the most marginalised persons and groups in Namibia, and in the process contribute to a national identity that finds affirmation in the power of peace, respect and care.

Our Beneficiaries

Our Beneficiaries are from the poorest and most vulnerable communities, mainly within the urban settlements in and around Windhoek. They, on the one hand, typically do not have access to psychological services, apart from the basic services provided by government, on the other hand, have a high trauma-causing potential. Since 1996, PEACE has been providing free psychological counselling and psychotherapy to people who, because of financial constraints, normally would not be able to access these services privately. In this way, PEACE Centre hopes to contribute to the psychological wellbeing of all people in Namibia.

(PEACE Centre is the only NGO in Namibia licensed as a psychotherapeutic centre with the Ministry of Health and Social Services in terms of section 31 of the Hospitals and Health Facilities Act, 1994.)
